First, I want to state clearly that most televisions can't be fixed with a simple fuse replacement or by taking the back off and finding the damaged part with the naked eye. Some televisions brought into my shop are damaged by the "do-it-yourselfer". What could have been a simple fix becomes more difficult and may require expensive repairs or worse render the television useless. Consumers can purchase some items quite easily such as lost remotes, protective screens for big screens, and some cabinet parts. However most  companies require you to have a "part number" which can only  be found in the "service manual" not the owner's manual, making it more difficult to purchase parts. Locating parts for televisions can be a tricky matter, many manufacturers use resellers to sell their parts. Also many of the manufacturers will only sell to those with resell licenses or sell only  to electronic technicians.
